Customer communications specialists DST Output Limited has been appointed the 'Environmental Company of the Year' at the 2009 British Print Federation Printweek Excellence awards, the company's third ‘Excellence' award in as many years.
The company demonstrated that smart business practices can enable companies to meet environmental goals such as reduced energy usage and increased recycling rates. The judges particularly praised the time and effort put into ensuring that every member of staff is fully aware of their personal environmental responsibilities, as well the business's corporate commitments. They commented: "All staff understand the business's drive for environmental excellence and where they fit into its continuing quest."
The award completes a hat-trick at the Excellence Awards for DST Output Limited following the 2008 award for Training and Development and the 2007 award for Lean Manufacturing.
Lucy Klinkenberg, Environmental Manager, won plaudits for leading the environmental revolution at DST Output, recruiting a cross-company environmental group. Tim Delahay, CEO of DST Output Limited commented: "Lucy has driven our environmental projects and encouraged a real passion among our staff to improve our environmental position. This award is recognition that we are on the right path."
The TransPromo pioneers have implemented a variety of environmental practices throughout the business, such as regular power audits, waste segregation and ‘EcobuttonsTM' for computers. Lucy Klinkenberg: "With businesses responsible for 40 percent of the UK's carbon emissions, we are all accountable for our impact on the environment. DST Output has demonstrated a longstanding environmental commitment."
The team is investigating further projects to reduce waste and power usage in addition to increasing company recycling - including a production paper waste reduction project, a CO2 reduction programme and a greener transport proposal.
